Recorded for submission to the 2010 RPM Challenge, 222 is a completely improvised album, performed on six instruments and recorded over the course of the afternoon of February 22, 2010. The album consists of 8 tracks, which are actually one piece of music, an 8 1/2-minute improvisation, rearranged into various permutations of the 6 individual instrument parts.

Track 1 features keyboard (electric piano) and electric guitar. Track 2 features Bebot — a synthesizer app for iPhone — and bass clarinet. Track 3 features electric guitar (the same part from track 1) and electric bass. Track 4 features keyboard (from track 1), bass clarinet (from track 2) and djembe. Track 5 features the Bebot (from track 2), unaccompanied. Track 6 features electric bass (from track 3) and bass clarinet (from track 2). Track 7 features the unaccompanied keyboard from track 1. Track 8 is all six instruments together.

Far more experimental and avant garde in nature than most Room 34 recordings, 222 harkens back to my free-form improv recordings from the mid-1990s with Bassius-O-Phelius.

All of the photography in the packaging was also taken by me; the front cover and tray card photos taken in my backyard on February 5; the self-portrait taken in my studio immediately after completing recording; and the freaky grafted tree on the CD itself at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum on February 21.
